Living Christmas Tree Care
Caring for Real Christmas Trees
Once your living Christmas tree is at home, remove its protective sleeve and stand down until required. Before taking your real Christmas tree inside your house, completely soak the compost by immersing the pot in a bucket of water. Your pot grown tree should be left in the bucket for a few minutes until the compost has become completely saturated with water. Next remove your Christmas tree from the water and leave it to drain for a few hours. When inside your home, your traditional, living Christmas tree should not be positioned too close to radiators or other sources of heat. For the duration of its stay in your home, your real, living Christmas tree should be watered regularly like any other indoor plant. Your pot grown Christmas tree can be put back outside after the festive season, potted on if necessary, or planted out in your garden.
Potting On Living Christmas Trees
During early spring you have the choice to either plant your living Christmas tree out in your garden or to pot it on into a larger container for use as a patio, decking or ornamental garden tree. Your potted living tree can also be used as next year's traditional, real Christmas tree. When potting on use a peat-based compost with a compound fertiliser incorporated. Remember to water your living Christmas tree regularly during the growing season.
Planting Out Living Christmas Trees
Living Christmas trees should be planted out during early springtime. When planting out incorporate some bone meal into the planting soil to add nutrition. Remember to water your real Christmas tree regularly during the growing season.
